Liberty Island Given as a gift to the United States from the French in 1886, the Statue of Liberty remains a beacon of hope for immigrants and a welcome to returning Americans. This famous landmark was also the site of Magneto's first attempt to turn the world's visiting dignitaries into mutants -- leading to his first full blown battle with the X-Men. Repairs have since been made and security heightened.
5th Avenue Reputably one of the most expensive streets in the world, 5th Avenue is comparable to Oxford Street in London and the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Tiffany, Cartier, and Sachs 5th are permanent fixtures here along with landmarks like the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim among others can also be found here.
Times Square It's easy to feel like you're standing on the pulse of the world here. Towering motion picture billboards hum with digital life. Corporate logos slither up the faces of buildings like sentient neon. Stars gaze down from the large windows of MTV studios. Stop at a streetcorner and you might hear any number of languages being spoken by passersby. You can buy almost anything in the world here and it's perhaps because of this that the the air seems to crackle with possibilities.
Central Park Easily one of the most visited parks in the world, this sprawling urban park boasts a wildlife preserve, two ice-skating rinks, several man-made lakes, playgrounds, and wide fields for playing sports. It's the perfect place for a stroll to escape the city's hustle and bustle.
The Hellfire Club The New York branch of this exclusive international club occupies this imposing mansion in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Here the wealthy and influential from the world over flock to attend lavish dinner parties or private balls. Unbeknownst to all but a precious few, its Inner Circle, a cabal of powerful mutants, plots to manipulate global events from the shadows.
The Penngrove Building Recently enlarged with fresh recruits, the Brotherhood has gone into hiding and now secretly occupies the imposing Penngrove Building (owned by Eileen Harshaw a.k.a. Phantazia) in Manhattan's Lower East Village. Here, the members continue to train, plot and recruit new soldiers for the coming struggle in relative safety.
Aqua Club Aqua is the nightspot for enterprising mutants. Only those powerful and brazen enough to risk exposure venture here. Located five blocks outside the safety of District X, getting to this converted warehouse is part of the fun.
The Vance Building A huge warehouse-like structure owned by Ms. Gina Vance located on the Western fringe of SoHo. Outwardly, it appears to be like every other loft in the area, a perfect facade that conceals the building's true purpose. It acts as the headquarters of The Mutant Underground. All operatives return here upon the completion of their missions to receive new orders before leaving for the field again. In addition, the building houses the Eastern Terminus of The Tunnels and serves as District X's link to the outside world.
District X A mutant ghetto recently flooded with refugees, the area is more commonly known as "Mutant Town" in the media. Despite the name, it comprises only a cluster of apartments and businesses that make up roughly four city blocks in Hell's Kitchen. A hastily constructed ten foot wall, built by residents to keep intruders out, surrounds the district on all sides. It's neither the glitziest nor safest of neighborhoods, but there is a strong sense of community here.
Manhattan Cure Clinic A cold, concrete edifice that is hollowed out and gray at night. By day, the big wide windows shine with a bright white light. Sliding glass double-doors lead into the sterile stainless steel interior. It is here that miracles are made.
Empire State Medical Complex Located across from Riverside Park, this collection of massive alabaster buildings houses one of the largest research hospitals on the East Coast. Unbeknownst to the general public, the institution has recently been converted into the new headquarters of the infamous Weapon X program.
Residential Neighborhoods A large part of the Big Apple's diversity and charm is that it's a city of neighborhoods, rather like a patchwork quilt. Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Soho etc. -- each has its own distinctive flavor.
DJ Gamesmaster's Barge Anchored just outside US territorial waters near New York harbor, this expansive cargo ship is the site of a mysterious rave held once every blue moon. The aging veneer hides a renovated interior, complete with an arena-sized dance floor located in the depths of the former hold. Partygoers arrive and exit by speedboat through the freight doors located on either side of the bow, They are connected to the make-shift ballroom by a long, narrow corridor. Everything else is strictly off limits...
Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters Located at 1407 Graymalkin Lane, in Salem Center, this stately Tudor mansion is the cradle of Professor Charles Xavier’s dream for peaceful human-mutant coexistence. Within its ivy-covered walls, young mutants are provided with a formal education in addition to being given guidance to accept, understand, and hone their strange gifts. Ever since the public discovered Xavier's involvement with Dark Cerebro, large crowds of humans have been camped out before its gates.
Salem Center Mall Recently remodeled, this fixture of the community has gone from dull and pedestrian to a modernist's dream of glass, steel and skylighting. In addition to department stores and eateries, the mall boasts an ice-skating rink and THX movie theaters.
The Massachusetts Academy Located in Snow Valley, Massachusetts and headed by Emma Frost, this prestigious boarding school caters to the crème de la crème of wealthy families worldwide. Many politicians, dignitaries, and the generally well to do send their children here for polishing and to obtain an exemplary education. This campus, with its stately Gothic Revival architecture, is the secret home and training ground of the Hellions – the mutant scions of the Hellfire Club.
The Capitol Crowning Capitol Hill, this enduring testament to Neoclassical architecture houses the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is located at the East end of the National Mall.
The White House A study in Georgian architecture, this is the office and official home of the President of the United States and the site of a brainwashed Nightcrawler's failed assassination attempt.
The Mutant Control Agency This heavily-fortified compound houses the government's copies of all mutant records gathered to date. It contains information extracted from Xavier's Protocols during the raid on his estate in addition to analyses provided by Dr. Windsor and registration data compiled on known mutants.
The Interstates Roadtrip! That which lays between everything else, to get anywhere, you have to cross through here. It is a nexus of all realities - wait, no. That's the M'Kraan crystal. This is far less shiny, but no less traveled.
Detroit Located just west of Canada in eastern Michigan, Detroit was once a sprawling metropolis. Formerly home to massive urban decay, its crime rates were, until recently, sky high. Now war torn, it was the first of the major cities to fall to the mutant uprising and remains their strongest bastion of resistance.
Pleasant County, Utah This little community was a tranquil and isolated stretch of sprawling suburbs juxtaposed against a rural backdrop, now it is full of scattered pockets of slag and scorched earth. Due to a strong contingency of religious ties, the values of family and unity hold strong here, even between humans and mutants. A human interest piece triggered the attention of the Brotherhood, who in began a series of prolonged skirmishes here. Home militia, both human and mutant alike, continue to fight and resist the incursions of any agents of chaos and strife.
Muir Island This little outpost is home to various mutants who are considered dangerous to themselves or others. Moira MacTaggert herself tends to each of these individuals, teaching them how to control their powers in addition to providing them treatment. This tiny rock is nearly impossible to reach by any means other than flight.
The Astral Plane This is the realm of the telepaths. The most skilled and capable of their kind are able to access the depths of this surreal and often dangerous stage. Even then, only the elite amongst them possess the ability to alter and bend the plane to their will. What occurs here has the potential to affect the individuals that enter in the outside world, so trespassers should be wary. An evil presence lurks in the shadows.
