 The Rules
Posted by Sinister - 12-31-07 23:32 - 0 comments

General
  • All standard RP rules apply. That means no power playing, metagaming and the like. We don't want to be Nazis so please just use common sense. [Staff reserve the right to expand this section in response to any subsequent incidents.]
  • Please keep drama off the boards. Remember to respect the staff and your fellow players.
  • Do not post in the IC boards until you are accepted.
  • Two administrators or one administrator and two moderators must approve your application before you are accepted.
  • The RP format for this site is third person past tense.
  • This is an R rated site. If your thread has mature content, be sure you put a warning in the title or first post of what's coming up in the thread. Other than that, happy swearing, having sex, doing drugs, and torturing.
  • There is no character limit but please be reasonable.
  • Please do not post in applications that are not your own.
  • There is no post minimum. Use your best judgment.
  • There is no limit to the number of threads your character may appear in as long as they are not in two places at once. If your character is involved in a plot thread, please do not have any threads dated after it.
  • The board follows real time.
  • Please follow posting order for threads. You may skip a poster if they have not replied for five days.
  • Please leave a notice of absence if you are going to be away for an extended amount of time.
  • Avatars should be no larger than 150x200. Signatures should be no larger than 500x200.
  • Staff will review your application within three days. If we have not, feel free to bump it to draw our attention.
  • Every character should be on a separate account unless they are twins/triplets/etc.
The Game

Applying
  • Register with your character's name, nickname or codename. Capitalize where appropriate. Please do not register with a ridiculous name. This includes both first and surnames. Example: Rainbow Shadowblade
  • This site is movieverse. Please use an actual person to portray your character. In addition, please make sure that the person is representative of the character. Staff reserves the right to request a portrayal change if such a case should arise. If you need help finding a portrayal, feel free to post in the questions board.
  • Staff reserve the right to request a codename change. Please remember not to take a canon character's codename without staff approval.
  • Staff reserve the right to ban or limit canons not explicitly listed. This power will only be exercised to maintain continuity or prevent the use of overpowered characters.
  • When applying for a canon, submit a RP Sample in Canon Applications and wait for approval before writing up an application. This is to save you work. Staff reserve the right to deny someone a canon in the event that we feel the character is not being portrayed accurately.
  • Please keep your original characters independent of canons. This means that Wolverine is not your character's father/brother/grandpa/etc.
  • Work your character into the storyline. Include at least three events from the Timeline into your history.
  • Please be realistic with your applications. Not everyone has a tragic childhood and became a god-like powerhouse after years of intense training. Originality would be extremely appreciated.
  • Please do not reformat the application.
  • Do not copy directly from an online reference source such as Wikipedia. Put it into your own words.
  • Remember to demonstrate that you have knowledge of how your power works.
After Acceptance
  • Please claim your portrayal after acceptance. If you have one reserved, please post again after being accepted.
  • Please track all threads for canon characters in the Character Journals section.
  • Classes cannot be challenged. However, anyone can develop their powers (to a certain point) and change their level. Simply post a list of your threads in the Review Forum at the end of each month and the staff will decide if your character has practiced or trained enough to warrant an increase in his or her level. Staff will notify you when your character has reached their peak.
  • The class of canon characters is predetermined.
  • Please keep your order of events sequential. If your character appears in multiple threads they should follow a progression.
  • If you start a thread, please add this tag to your post:

 The Plot
Posted by Sinister - 12-31-07 22:52 - 0 comments
The United States has been carved up by violence. Hundreds of thousands have already been displaced and the coming conflict threatens to unsettle millions more...

It began with a fool and his folly, a terrorist attack that eventually ended up targeting both humans and mutants alike. However, it was the mutants who suffered the most dire consequences. No longer able to hide in plain sight after being exposed by the Dark Cerebro Incident, they were systematically uprooted from their homes and brutally attacked. Those that survived the initial onslaught sought each other out for protection. The numerous bands and ragtag armies that formed did not hesitate in taking what they needed from the human population, leaving destruction in their wake. The resulting fear and panic, along with increasing hostility, quickly silenced those working towards a peaceful settlement. It wasn't long before radicals on both sides came to power amidst calls for "just" retribution. The bloodshed grew to be a common occurrence as the two sides continued to clash. Human refugees filled the cities, abandoning the countryside in their search for safety. The mutant attacks began soon after.

Now, after several coordinated offensives, mutants are in control of large tracts of the country and actively engaging the National Guard. Rumors abound that the armed forces are being mobilized to counter the threat as well. The troops are said to be equipped with a new weapon, the recently developed cure for mutancy. This has incited even more anger from the mutant populace and reinforced the notion that the humans must be stopped at all costs. From the chaos, Magneto has emerged triumphant, gathering the various mutant forces around his message of mutant superiority. Still his hold is tenuous at best. Not all mutants are satisfied by simply subjugating the humans. These individuals believe that the world must be cleansed of them. Though few in number, they are by far the most powerful of mutantkind. The Mutant Underground also resists his influence. Consisting of the most independent and free-thinking of the mutant population, this group, though not seeking to actively undermine his leadership, nonetheless offers a tempting, practical alternative to his rhetoric.

Then there are those who would rather cooperate with the humans, not just the followers of Charles Xavier and his fading dream but the entrepreneurs who see a profit to be made by playing each side against the other. The members of this social elite readily dismiss Magneto's trite notions of brotherhood and feel no compunction to spare their mutant "brethren" from their secretive machinations.

Opposed to the mutant forces are the humans themselves, led by organizations such as the Friends of Humanity, the Church of William Stryker and the U.S. government itself. To combat the advantage that mutant powers provide, these groups have resorted to technology. They have acquired the most advanced weaponry known to both humans and mutants alike. In addition, Stryker's Weapon X program was revived and used to deploy captured mutants against their own kind. These brainwashed individuals will soon be accompanied by bio-engineered hybrids and robotic shock troops as well as regular forces equipped with the newly-developed cure.

Mid-October, 2008: An assassination attempt is made on the president leading up to the events of Dark Cerebro. Jean Grey is lost at the bottom of Alkali Lake. Many normal-looking mutants are exposed for what they are, leading them to flee for their lives. They gather together and form the Underground to aid others like themselves. The president makes a televised speech advocating mutant-human cooperation and is promptly voted out of office in a referendum. A hardliner is elected in his place. The new president's cabinet is filled with high-ranking members of the military. Humans begin attacking mutants in retribution for the Dark Cerebro disaster.

November 3, 2008: An anonymous informant leaks evidence that the government and Professor Charles Xavier were involved with the Dark Cerebro Incident onto the internet. Fanatical mutants start clamoring for revenge against the humans while the latter begin gathering in front of Xavier's estate, calling for his execution.

December 6, 2008: A "cure" for mutancy is announced by Worthington Laboratories. Magneto begins expanding Brotherhood in response.

January 2, 2009: The mutant blockades are broken. Many major cities are retaken by the government but not before some are set ablaze. Hundreds of thousands are displaced. Public outcry calls for a crackdown on mutants.

January 9, 2009: A distribution date is announced for the cure. Thousands of disenfranchised mutants gather in San Francisco to be the first to receive it. Despite continuing violence elsewhere, a tentative peace prevails in the city.

January 18, 2009: The mutant insurgency regains momentum. Just two weeks after being pushed out of most major cities, the mutants have regrouped and recaptured several key urban areas. Though federal forces were eventually able to drive them out once more, the insurgents had already completed looting of essential supplies and caused extensive property and infrastructure damage.

February 27, 2009: Several facilities related to the cure are attacked, prompting the government to step up its efforts at stockpiling the weapon. As a result, the distribution date for public use has been pushed back indefinitely, leading to unrest amongst eager mutants waiting for their humanity.

March 4, 2009: Video footage captured during the Bleeding of Detroit is released. The brutality of the images hardens the nation's resolve and pushes the country into an even harder line against mutants. At the same time, the glimpse of victory has encouraged even more mutants to join the insurgents' ranks.

June 20, 2009: The long stalemate that had been in place since the beginning of April continues to unravel. After a two month freeze in violence, the conflict reignites brutally following the Sack of New Orleans by mutant militia. With the barricades down, mutants now have free reign to travel most of the country and the government clings to vital cities in the hope of weathering the onslaught. An undertone of panic now begins to grip the wider public.
