This is Sum Ting Wong reporting live from outside New York City.

Tonight, we are witnessing, first hand, the new front line in the human-mutant war. Here, at the port of Elizabeth, New Jersey, the army and National Guard are constantly fighting to protect our way of life. Since the various roadblocks and barricades on our nation's interstates have been dismantled in April, the mutant menace has only grown. As you may remember, it wasn't long after that insurgents began raiding our cities for supplies of food and medicine, leaving devastation in their wake. Though these incursions led to widespread public protest, Pentagon officials insisted that the alternative was much worse. Senior generals were quoted as saying that the barricades were untenable, that recent developments had led them to believe that our forces were spread too thin to be effective. Thus, the government began secretly dismantling them, redeploying soldiers elsewhere. It wasn't until mutants launched a raid on the city of Buffalo that the public was finally informed of the situation.

The raids were soon stopped and the mutants retreated to the cities that they had already captured. A tenuous peace was established and many suspected the dawn of a new Cold War. All thoughts of this were soon dispelled, however, with the new wave of mutant attacks last week. The target: our nation's ports. New Orleans was overwhelmed within two days, cutting the Midwest off from crucial resupply lines. Efforts to retake the city were successful, but the victors were left with little to celebrate. The mutants had demolished the city's levees and port facilities, rendering it useless.

Similar efforts seem to be underway here, at New York's most vital cargo port. So far, multiple assaults have already been repelled, but the soldiers here are quickly becoming disheartened by the seemingly endless attacks. Reinforcements were promised days ago, but have yet to arrive. Ladies and gentlemen, these brave men and women are all that stand in the way of the mutant menace and the end of our way of life. Should these heroes fail, then that shall be a dark day indeed. This is Sum Ting Wong reporting live for CNN, Headline News.
