overall appearance:
For Anna, appearances are important. Even though she tries not to be dramatic or to wear flamboyant clothing, she has to be clean and she has to be neat. She likes light and crisp attire, white cotton mostly, preferring simple cuts like T-shirts or button-down shirts. For bottoms, jeans or khaki pants work well. The problem with her wardrobe is that she almost always only has one article of formal attire, which more often than not is in some way inappropriate for a certain occasion. So, she doesn’t dress up very well.

Her preference to be clean and efficient also includes her hair being cut short, to about shoulder-length. Long hair is hard to wash, dry and maintain, and she doesn’t really see the need for tying one’s hair into chignons and beehives anyway. Even though long hair is easy to accessorise and style, it’s even easier to comb short hair and leave it still looking passable.

Most people would tell Anna that she looks pretty – only when she smiles. Anna has blue-grey eyes and nicely shaped eyebrows, and she herself would admit that she is proud of her complexion (she doesn’t really like tans). But her lips are often turned down in a slight pout which although does not make her exceedingly ugly, does lend her an air of unintended worry and unease.

Anna walks fast. She doesn’t walk with her nose in the air, neither does she cringe up into herself with a hunchback posture and slouch around; she just walks fast with long, quick strides. Even though she is a shy person, this does not cause her to adopt any submissive posture while moving, but, instead, she tries to get out of an area and into another as soon as possible, especially if she doesn’t want to be in the previous location. When she is standing, however, she finds herself gravitating towards the nearest wall and gripping one wrist with the other hand, trying to remain as unnoticed as possible. However, “unnoticed” also involves looking as though she isn’t purposely trying to remain unnoticed, which is more difficult.

thePOWERS

powers:
Anna’s powers essentially are of two parts: specialised telekinesis, which then acts as a factor for her illusion ability to work.

For Anna’s powers to work, Anna must imagine some sort of mental construct in her mind in simple geometric shapes, such as rectangles or spheres. (For the sake of convenience I’m referring to such as “constructs” for this section; this is also what Anna refers to them as, although I understand this probably isn’t the proper term.) These constructs are not solid or corporeal of their own right; they don’t really exist, meaning that others can pass through them and they don’t affect anything in the area where they are imagined by her. However, Anna’s powers will not work outside of these constructs. The construct would usually be the height of a man and maybe twice the length, or smaller.

Basically, these constructs are to facilitate Anna’s specialised telekinesis; when objects are applied to the construct itself, they will be suspended in the same position. For example, if Anna uses a stick of chalk and draws on the mental construct, the particles of chalk will ‘stick’ to the construct as though she were drawing on an actual chalkboard, hence the codename. She does especially well with small particles like chalk or sand, and liquids, such as paint. Light objects like sheets of paper also work, though the effectiveness of the power would be affected by both weight and size of the individual object. Therefore, all suspended particles or objects would be perceived to be on the “surface” of the construct.

When the particles or objects are all suspended in such a manner, Anna can move them to a certain extent. She can move the entire construct, but not individual objects at the same time. Depending on the size of the construct, she can move it at varying speeds, mostly akin to how fast a normal human would be able to move it. Occasionally, Anna has shown the ability to imagine multiple constructs at the same time. However, such constructs would be very small, about a square metre across if there are two, and even smaller as the number increases.

The constructs themselves can last for about twenty minutes to half an hour. This varies according to the size and the number of objects suspended on the construct.

In recent years, Anna has displayed an additional ability, possibly owing to her mother’s powers: after she has formed a construct and suspended objects with the intent to make a drawing on it, she can then superimpose a more realistic image upon the drawing in the form of a mental illusion. These illusions only can be drawn from her own memory or imagination. For example, if she draws a house, she would probably only be able to imagine her own house, or a house from a movie somewhere. The illusion affects those within a radius of half a mile, and can last for about ten minutes depending on its complexity and familiarity. The drawings on the constructs themselves facilitate the formation of the illusion; the higher the quality and resemblance of the drawing to the intended illusion, the clearer and more accurate the illusion becomes.

limits:
Anna’s powers depend mostly on her imagination. This in turn becomes a great limitation to the extent of her abilities.

In imagining the constructs, Anna can only imagine simple geometrical shapes. The reason for this is that she has to continuously hold the image in her head while working with the construct, and too many appendages and variations to the construct would probably be forgotten or overlooked at some point, eventually deforming the construct and releasing whatever happened to be suspended there at the time. The size of the construct is also limited to a man’s height, as if she forgets a portion of the construct is there, it essentially no longer exists. The height and length is basically what she can maintain in her short-term memory. After that, maintaining the construct and its suspended objects depends upon her concentration and her physical energy, which varies according to circumstance.

The same applies to the suspension of particles or objects on the constructs. To Anna, this process is like drawing on a chalkboard: apply the chalk, paintbrush or paper to the construct and it will stick. If she throws an object at it, it will stick too, but an object cannot be more than five centimetres away from the construct to be attracted towards the construct and thus be stuck there. Heavier objects are not only draining on her physical strength but also don’t really make as much sense to her, making it a mental barrier for herself. As soon as she ceases concentration on the construct, all suspended matter on it will immediately crash to the ground quite violently and, in addition, be repelled in a direction slightly perpendicular from the construct. This is why if Anna wants to use her powers for some idle artwork, she has to cover the floor with newspaper. If she is outside and wants to remain inconspicuous, she has to move the construct to somewhere where the materials can be disposed of, use materials that doesn’t look conspicuous when it is strewn all over the floor, or use materials that can be picked up or swept up easily. Papers are good, and sometimes chalk, but paint certainly cannot be used outdoors.

Her illusion abilities as of now are extremely limited. They are very draining on her strength, as well as heavily dependent upon her artistry skills and memory. As mentioned before, her illusions are dependent on her own memories and exposures, and if she doesn’t remember something well, the illusions will be very blurred and vague unless supplemented by either her drawing skills or imagination. The illusions are mostly static images as of now; moving images are beyond her ability at the moment. To increase the usefulness of the power Anna has to increase her exposure to visual images; if anyone sees a cave tunnel directly out of The Chronicles of Narnia looking out over an ancient castle, they would almost certainly be suspicious.

These powers don’t really have many offensive capabilities, unless she covers a construct with something hard and sharp, like glass shards, and moves it towards someone really quickly. Other than that, she can cover the entire construct with something hard and make a wall, but this takes a very long time. Any sort of offense would have to be very innovative.

overall personality:
Anna is a shy person, and incredibly self-conscious. She hates it when people notice her, or make her the centre of attention, because it makes her feel either bad about herself or that others are trying to find fault with her. It’s hard for Anna to make eye contact with people that she doesn’t know or even that she knows marginally; what if there’s a speck of grit on her face, or what if she ends up staring too hard and the other person thinks it’s rude? This constant worrying about other people’s perception about her often puts her in a frozen, hesitant state when it comes to dealing with others, especially when there’s more than one.

As a result, solitude is something she dearly treasures. Give her a big, open room with nobody in it and she will gladly sit in there for a few hours or so just appreciating the emptiness. However, Anna still has social desires, and keeps her own, tight circle of friends close around her. If she has to be with others, she prefers to have people she knows very well, and in a small group. Sometimes, it’s better than being alone. Anna is also a rather tactile person. Besides looking at things, which she does do a lot, she likes to reach out and touch them as well. She can stand in a shop and stroke a piece of silk all day because it feels nice. Because of this, Anna comes across as a physically affectionate person. She can be seen, if she is with a very close friend, draping a hand over the friend’s shoulder, holding his/her hand, or even just flicking a strand of his/her hair. This type of relationship would be very precious to her, although it’s been tough for her to find someone that reciprocates that.

She can be very emotional, sometimes. Anna is not afraid to cry. To her, crying is a natural outlet for humans, otherwise why would they have tears? When she is very sad, she cries, and when she is happy, she smiles – but only when the situation warrants it. She doesn’t like to hold back tears. However, given her introverted nature, she cries or smiles to herself, most of the time, or perhaps confides in a friend or two. As thus, people who see her quietly giggling to herself might find her rather strange.

Given that her powers largely have to do with drawing, it might be a surprise that Anna isn’t particularly fond of drawing itself. She admits that she is passable at it; her works are realistic, which is essential for her powers to work. However, she finds drawing inadequate to express her feelings. She prefers photography, where she can capture a moment that embodies the essence of an emotion or experience, whereas a single imperfection in a drawing can ruin the message of it. Due to the nature of her powers also, she has always perceived drawings as too temporary and too easily erased, whether with erasers or turpentine. Besides, she gets tired of it.

Anna displays a rather startling ability to harden under pressure. She has always admired military men that she sees in movies, especially those in the climax scenes that are still able to bark out orders slowly, loudly and fluently. Under pressure, Anna herself refuses to let anything bother her other than the task at hand. The more dire the circumstances, the more focused she becomes. She would even be willing to stand up and speak in front of more than five people if she had to. Panic, to her, is a killer of progress, and she makes a conscious effort to quell such panic as it arises, to good results.

However, in the same circumstances, she has internal conflicts on whether she should follow through on her actions, or accept an apparent futility of the situation. Mostly she tries to remain determined, but if there’s a loved one or something really important involved, it can sway either way.

theBACKGROUND

siblings and/or other notable family:
Vanessa Stone (maiden name Walker), mother, illusion powers
Paul Stone, father, not a mutant

place of birth && nationality: San Diego, California; USA citizen
place of residence: Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters
occupation: Student

overall history:
When Vanessa Walker and Paul Stone married, many thought that the marriage was rather rushed. In truth, it was hurried along by Vanessa herself, hesitant to admit to Paul that she was a mutant, while she knew that Paul was human. However, before she had decided it was the right time to tell him, the couple had conceived Anna. Anna’s birth was decidedly uneventful. The operation was smooth, the baby was delivered cleanly, and both parents Vanessa and Paul were there to receive their child with joy. Paul, like any father, hoped that Anna would grow up to be successful and self-sufficient, hopefully married as well. Vanessa, at that point, was preoccupied with the fact of whether Anna would manifest mutations of her own, and if she should then have told Paul that she was a mutant. But she kept her silence.

Anna was a happy, quiet child. She was incredibly attached to her parents, as is typical of a young child, and especially to her mother, as Paul was at work much of the time. Vanessa, deciding that Paul had no need to know that she was a mutant as of yet, did not tell Anna either, fearing that Anna would mistakenly say something out loud to Paul.

As a result, Anna as a young child knew almost nothing about mutants except broken rumours from those she knew. The idea she formed about mutants was fragmented; they were detached, part human, part monster, and they could exist anywhere… except in her world. Mutants meant little to her. They were more like fairytales than anything else.

Growing older and starting proper school, Anna became more reclusive. It did not seem to have anything to do with the way she was brought up, but a natural instinct of hers to shy away from the noisy, raucous conversation of her class. She generally did well in her studies. It was when she was around seven that she suddenly took up an interest in drawing, which was a little strange, as she did not doodle much as a toddler. However, she kept drawing, and she did well. Her parents were happy, gave her chalkboards and papers, and sent her to a few art classes. They didn’t think of her pursuing it as a career, though, as she had many fleeting interests ranging from theatre to stock markets.

As Anna approached her adolescence, Vanessa began to get worried, for that period had been the time when she herself had discovered that she was a mutant. She still had not told Paul that she was one, and she hoped that Anna’s teenage years would pass without incident.

One day when Anna had just turned eleven, she came home from art class looking more sullen than usual. Vanessa was slightly alarmed, and immediately went to her daughter asking what was wrong. “The teacher said I can’t go back to art class anymore,” Anna had said, and after being probed further, she added something else. “Because there’s something I can do that they can’t.” With Vanessa watching in shock, Anna took out a piece of chalk from her bag and drew a house, hovering in midair. “See, I can draw without a chalkboard.”

It took the entire day and probably a few weeks after that for Anna to grasp that she had become a “mutant”, and not a “superhero”, like those she had read about in comic books that were celebrated for their achievements rather than being socially ostracised. It took just as long for Anna to grasp that her mother was a mutant like her too, and that Vanessa had had to hide it for eleven years since she was born, and that Daddy didn’t know about it.

It took even longer for Paul to grasp the situation. At first, when Vanessa finally broke the news to him after he came home, he broke a vase, he shouted at his wife, his wife screamed back, Anna cried, and then Paul disappeared for a day or so. When he came back, he was considerably calmer, but refused to talk to Vanessa for a week. He told Anna that “about this mutant thing, I understand why you don’t tell someone about it on your first date, but whatever you do, do tell your future husband about this before you marry.”

After seeing what the “mutant thing” had done to her father, Anna doubled her efforts to keep her powers from those at school. Her powers were relatively passive, and Vanessa saw no need to send her child to any special schools as long as she wasn’t experiencing any trouble, like she had when she was younger. Although Xavier's had sent an invitation before, she had declined it; she had heard of such schools when she was a teenager, but her parents had told her to stay away from them. Paul tried not to think about it.

At home, Anna was endlessly curious about her powers. She spent hours in her room just experimenting and inventing a new set of vocabulary unique to herself. The invisible chalkboards she liked to draw on weren’t just chalkboards. So, she decided to rename them “constructions”, which later became “constructs” because it was easier to say and sounded cooler. Her room became splattered with paint. It became her private wonderland, even as she got older and devoted more time to her studies.

Besides various scares, nothing really happened until Anna turned sixteen and was coaxed into attending a party at a questionable location. It culminated in everyone running out of the building away from a group of guys with guns. Two of them ran after Anna, who called the police and then sprinted for her life, ending up in a dark alley; it was a dead end, but the pursuers, drunk, were far away.

She took the chance, and taking out a piece of black chalk from the chalk she always kept in her pocket, she focused desperately and started blackening out a square construct large enough for her to hide behind. Then she hid behind it, near hyperventilating and even more exhausted from the usage of her powers. As the gunmen entered the alley, something shocking happened: she saw the scribbled black lines slowly blur into each other, and then sharpen to form an irregular brick pattern, matching the wall behind her. However, the drain on her strength was suddenly so great, that no sooner were the gunmen about to leave than the construct dissipated and they saw Anna collapse on the floor.

With cries of “She’s a mutie!”, and “Kill her!”, the gunmen proceeded to beat her up, and would have done more than that if the police had not found her in time. When Paul saw her and heard what happened, he walked out of the room, pushing past his wife saying “Damn, Vanessa, you can’t expect me to get used to this in five years when it was supposed to take sixteen.”

A while after Dark Cerebro occurred, and perhaps because of it, Anna was transferred to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters as soon as possible. She has been at Xavier’s for less than a year now, and though she has learnt much, she still has a lot to learn.

QUOTE
It was strange to still be on the island while Saint was dead.

Saint had been one of the first beings that she had interacted with since swimming across to the island (besides trees and maybe a few rabbits or other small creatures). Even as she moved around mostly alone, and went about her daily business quite happily and without much social influence, Saint's presence was always very prominent. Everyone knew that Saint and Calypso had had pups, though Ghost hadn't really seen much of them. At every pack meeting, she would ascend the mountain and find Saint there, sitting peacefully, like a stone obelisk, and somehow the atmosphere just settled like a blanket of snow.

Yet, the only reason she had found out about Saint (and Calypso's) death was because Mikolaj had told her. And somehow she had managed to, well, not be too sad. She tried not to think about it, mainly. And she couldn't tell her pups. They were too young to know of it, maybe, or maybe they didn't deserve to.

So they were here, Crescent, Eridanus and Delphinus sleeping in the den, their little ribcages rising and falling almost in unison, and she lying there, watching them. It was a nice feeling, watching them sleep. Maybe if she slept, she thought, she would be able to achieve such childlike bliss as they did.

But always her mind drifted back to what she could not, would not think about.

She tried to sleep, but just as she was about to, a howl sounded from somewhere. Saint? she thought for a moment, but knew it was not, even though it sounded so much like him. She shivered a little to think about who it was, who it most definitely was.

Reluctantly, she woke the three sleeping pups. Maybe she shouldn't be bringing them, but she didn't feel right about leaving them alone. Besides, if Mikolaj wasn't bringing Orion and Epitaph, they would have come back to the den.

She led the little group on, proceeding slowly, wondering if she would meet anyone along the way. She wondered how long they would take, calculating the added time it would take to scale the slope up Cache Dangereux... then she realised they weren't heading that way at all. They were going towards Animositas Petra.

And there in the slow clouds of fog and the strange rock formations sat Kitten, sitting, as peaceful as his father could have sat but no, he radiated something completely different that made her heart stop momentarily. She was one of the last; Laj was already there with Orion and Epitaph.

She kept her pups close, and sat just as close to Laj. She was petrified. But she couldn't show that to the young ones. She didn't want to scare them further, because after what Kitten was probably about to tell them, they wouldn't know what to do.

Sure, anytime. And no need to be sorry. wink.gif
Everything looks fine now. Anna is a Advanced Class 2 Mutant due to the nature of her powers. You can RP now while we get her IC acceptance up.
